Individual health insurance policies must provide coverage for the purchase of service animals certified as medically necessary by a treating health care provider, effective January 1, 2020.

Group health insurance policies must provide coverage for the purchase of service animals certified as medically necessary by a treating health care provider, effective January 1, 2020.

Coverage requirements apply to policies providing coverage types specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (11) and (12) of section 38a-469 of the Connecticut general statutes.

Service animal is defined by 28 CFR 36.104, as amended from time to time.

Requirement applies to policies delivered, issued for delivery, renewed, amended or continued in Connecticut on or after January 1, 2020.
