HB 5883 Summary

• Adds detoxification treatment as a covered medical benefit under workers' compensation insurance for injured employees who consumed prescribed opioid drugs for work-related injuries for a continuous period of not less than one year, subject to commissioner approval.

• Requires employees of local or regional boards of education to send written notice of workers' compensation claims to their employing board of education, in addition to existing notice requirements for state and municipal employees.

• Expands wage reimbursement eligibility for claimants required to appear at depositions before a commissioner, in addition to existing coverage for conferences and informal hearings.

• All provisions take effect October 1, 2019.
