Prohibits the use of leghold traps (devices designed to close on an animal's foot or leg to hold it) and body-crushing traps (devices designed to kill with a blow or crushing force to the body, including conibear-style traps)

Exempts cage traps, box traps, nets, suitcase-type beaver traps, and common rat and mouse traps from the prohibition

Requires trap setters to obtain written permission from landowners before setting traps on their property and to have their name legibly stamped on each trap

Mandates that trap setters visit traps within 24 hours, except when the period expires before sunset in which case they have until sunset

Establishes violation as a class D misdemeanor with penalties including forfeiture of all traps used in violation, effective October 1, 2019
