Public Act No. 19-105 Summary

• Expands acceptable cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certification providers to include any organization using guidelines published by the American Heart Association and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, in addition to American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and American Safety and Health Institute.

• Extends civil liability immunity for rendering emergency first aid or CPR to employees of railroads, identified staff members of before/after school programs and day camps, and persons trained to use cartridge injectors (epinephrine auto-injectors).

• Requires child care centers and group child care homes to have staff trained in the use of cartridge injectors and inhalant asthma medications within three weeks of a child's enrollment when prescribed.

• Updates requirements for lifeguards, school swim instructors, and tattoo technician applicants to accept certifications from organizations using American Heart Association and American Red Cross first aid guidelines.

• Effective date: July 1, 2019.
