Municipalities that purchased body-worn recording equipment, electronic defense weapon recording equipment, dashboard cameras with remote recorders, or digital data storage devices during fiscal years ending June 30, 2017 and June 30, 2018 shall receive up to 100 percent reimbursement of costs, with digital storage services reimbursed for no more than one year.

Body-worn recording equipment must be purchased in sufficient quantity as determined by the chief of police (or borough warden/first selectman if no chief exists) to ensure all sworn members and law enforcement personnel have equipment while interacting with the public.

Municipalities that purchased body-worn recording equipment between January 1, 2012 and July 1, 2016 shall be reimbursed but not to exceed the grant-in-aid amount they would have received if purchases had been made during the specified 2017-2018 fiscal years.

Municipalities not reimbursed under prior provisions that made qualifying purchases during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019 shall receive up to 50 percent reimbursement of costs.

State police, special police forces, and municipal police departments receiving reimbursement grants must use body-worn recording equipment while interacting with the public during law enforcement activities, except as provided by departmental policy or other exceptions.
