Commissioner of Children and Families must notify school principals, superintendents, and the Commissioner of Education when abuse or neglect complaints are made against school employees or contractor employees.

Notification of parents or guardians must occur immediately after the school leader is notified, unless the staff member is the alleged perpetrator.

Investigations of school employee abuse or neglect complaints must be completed within 45 calendar days, with imminent risk cases commenced within 2 hours and all other cases within 72 hours of receipt.

Superintendents must suspend school employees within 5 working days if the Commissioner determines the employee abused or neglected a child or if a person is a victim of the employee, with suspension remaining in effect until the board of education acts on employment status.

School boards are prohibited from employing persons whose employment was terminated or who resigned following a suspension if they are convicted of child abuse, neglect, or sexual offense crimes against students.
