Hospitals may administer influenza and pneumococcal vaccines to patients without a physician's order, following assessment of contraindications and in accordance with physician-approved hospital policy.

Hospitals shall offer influenza immunizations to all inpatients age 65 and older prior to discharge, starting October 1, 2019 and annually thereafter, contingent on vaccine availability and CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations.

Immunizations may be withheld only when medically contraindicated.

The Commissioner of Public Health shall adopt regulations to implement the vaccination requirements.

The act takes effect October 1, 2019 and amends Connecticut General Statutes Section 19a-490k.
