HB 7172 Summary

• Repeals and replaces Section 38a-782a of Connecticut General Statutes regarding continuing education requirements for licensed insurance producers, effective July 1, 2019.

• Authorizes the Insurance Commissioner to suspend continuing education requirements for public officials (state-wide elected officers, General Assembly members, and members of Congress) during their time in office if they are prohibited from selling insurance.

• Requires the Commissioner to grant at least 6 hours of continuing education credit during any two-year period to active members of state-wide professional insurance producer associations, provided the association submits membership information.

• Defines "state-wide professional insurance producer association" as an organization existing 10+ years that promotes integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism, and business interests through education, advocacy, and sound business practices.

• Defines "active member" as a licensed insurance producer who maintains good standing membership, attends at least one association educational meeting during the two-year period, and reviews applicable ethical standards.
