Licensed dentists may administer in-office point-of-service HbA1c tests using finger-stick measurement tools during office visits or prior to procedures with patient consent.

Tests are limited to patients at increased risk of diabetes who do not have a previous diabetes diagnosis.

Dentists who choose not to administer the test shall not be deemed to have violated the standard of care for dentists.

The Commissioner of Public Health may adopt regulations to carry out the provisions of this section.

The act becomes effective July 1, 2019.
