Public Act No. 19-178 Summary

• Visitor welcome centers must provide space for listing events and promoting attractions by invitation to Connecticut tourism industry entities, tourism districts, and chambers of commerce.

• Department of Economic and Community Development must place full-time year-round supervisors and part-time assistant supervisors at Danbury, Darien, North Stonington, and West Willington centers, with responsibilities including brochure inventory, staff scheduling, training, and usage statistics.

• Department must discontinue staffing at Middleton, Plainfield, and Wallingford centers and establish seasonal supervisors at Greenwich and Westbrook centers, subject to available funds.

• A Connecticut Tourism Council is established within the Department of Economic and Community Development, consisting of three state commissioners and 26 appointed members representing various tourism industries, tourism districts, and regional interests.

• Commissioner of Transportation must conduct a study on wayfinding signage standards and regulations for advertising local businesses on highway signs, with findings due by February 1, 2020.
