SB 267 Summary

• Requires electors registering to vote by mail for the first time on or after January 1, 2003 to present photo identification or government documents showing name and address before voting.

• Allows other electors to either present preprinted identification showing name and address, signature, or photograph, or complete a form under penalty of false statement with residential address, date of birth, and signature.

• Mandates registrars of voters maintain a log of electors who complete the signed statement form and those whose forms are incomplete or inaccurate.

• Requires town registrars to compile and submit reports to the Secretary of the State within 90 days after each primary, election, or referendum detailing the number of electors using the signed statement form and form deficiencies.

• Allows individuals who provide identification information during voter registration that matches existing Connecticut identification records to sign a statement instead of presenting identification when voting in person or by absentee ballot.

• Takes effect October 1, 2019.
