SB 925 Summary

• Creates an "advanced operator's retraining program" consisting of at least 8 hours of in-person classroom instruction covering behavioral driving characteristics, psychology-based principles, and effects of drugs and speeding with a maximum fee of $135.

• Requires operators convicted of moving or suspension violations to attend the advanced retraining program upon their first conviction after completing 36 consecutive months without additional violations.

• Expands license suspension requirements to 30 days for first conviction, 60 days for second conviction, and 90 days for third or subsequent conviction of specified moving or suspension violations.

• Allows drivers' schools and other certified organizations to conduct both the standard operator's retraining program and the new advanced program, subject to $350 application fees and $50,000 surety bond requirements.

• Takes effect October 1, 2020 and amends Connecticut General Statutes Section 14-111g.
