SB 1005 Summary

• Revises emergency medical services (EMS) definitions and replaces references to "provider" with "emergency medical service organization" throughout Connecticut statutes effective July 1, 2019

• Adds new definition of "emergency medical services personnel" encompassing certified emergency medical responders, technicians, advanced technicians, instructors, and licensed paramedics

• Updates EMS certification and licensure requirements for paramedics, emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians, emergency medical responders, and instructors to align with National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards

• Modifies recertification processes to allow renewal based on continuing education completion or current national certification, and extends reinstatement eligibility from one year to two years for lapsed certifications

• Establishes continuing education platform Internet web site for tracking EMS personnel training hours and requires quarterly data reporting by ambulance services on call volume, response times, and service levels
