SB 1047 Summary

• Candidates seeking nomination for state office may qualify through petition by obtaining at least 10,000 signatures or 2% of enrolled party members, whichever is less, in accordance with sections 9-404a to 9-404c.

• Candidates seeking nomination for district offices must obtain at least 2% of enrolled party members for U.S. Representative positions or 5% for state senator, state representative, or judge of probate positions through petition.

• Petition signatures must be filed with town registrars no later than 4:00 p.m. on the 63rd day before the primary election, with registrars providing daily updates of verified signatures to candidates.

• Town clerk and registrar offices must remain open until at least 4:00 p.m. on the final filing deadline day for nominating and primary petitions, with staff present to assist candidates.

• The act becomes effective July 1, 2019, and amends Connecticut General Statutes sections 9-400, 9-405(b), and 9-453i(d).
