Senate Bill No. 1091 Summary

• Governor shall proclaim 11 new annual observance days and weeks, including Cadet Nurse Corps Day (June 15), Connecticut Older Horse Week (fourth week in May), Kidney Disease Awareness Week (first week in September), and observances for various medical conditions and historical events.

• Creates designated days for disease awareness including 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Day (November 22), Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Day (May 17), Clubfoot Day (June 3), Encephalitis Day (February 22), Advance Directive Awareness Day (April 16), and Moyamoya Awareness Day (May 6).

• Establishes Thirteenth Amendment Day (December 6) to commemorate the ratification of the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery.

• Designates U.S.S. Indianapolis CA-35 Day (July 30) to honor the cruiser and Connecticut sailors who served aboard during World War II, including recognition of rescue and recovery crews.

• Amends existing Sikh Genocide Remembrance Day from November 30 to November 1 to properly commemorate the lives lost during the Sikh Genocide on November 1, 1984.
