Retail sellers of goods or services must accept cash as payment and cannot refuse cash transactions, post signs rejecting cash, or charge higher prices to cash customers effective October 1, 2020.

Exemptions include telephone, mail, and Internet transactions; parking lots and garages; wholesale club memberships; retail stores requiring affiliated mobile app payments; rental transactions requiring collateral or security; and employee-only services on employer premises.

Commissioner of Consumer Protection may adopt regulations under chapter 54 of the general statutes to implement the cash acceptance requirements.
