HB 5255 Summary

• Prohibits insurers from discriminating against individuals solely because they are living organ donors when delivering, issuing, renewing, amending, or continuing life insurance, long-term care insurance, or disability income protection policies in Connecticut effective January 1, 2021.

• Declares any violation of the living organ donor non-discrimination provision an unfair method of competition and unfair/deceptive practice under Connecticut's Unfair Insurance Practices Act (section 38a-816).

• Adds violation of the living organ donor non-discrimination requirement as subdivision (24) to the list of unfair insurance practices defined in section 38a-816.

• Effective date of January 1, 2021 for all provisions amending sections 38a-1, creating new section 2, and amending section 38a-816.
