Individual health insurance policies issued or renewed in Connecticut on or after January 1, 2021 cannot deny coverage or discriminate against epinephrine cartridge injectors administered by third parties for emergency allergic reactions.

Group health insurance policies issued or renewed in Connecticut on or after January 1, 2021 are subject to the same coverage requirements for epinephrine cartridge injectors administered by third parties during emergencies.

Coverage must be provided regardless of whether the insured held a valid prescription for the epinephrine cartridge injector at the time of administration.

The requirement applies to health insurance policies providing coverage types specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (10), (11), (12) and (16) of Connecticut General Statute section 38a-469.

The act takes effect January 1, 2021.
