Requires individual and group health insurance policies to cover amino acid modified preparations and low protein modified food products (less than one gram of protein per serving) for treatment of inherited metabolic diseases when prescribed by a physician.

Defines inherited metabolic disease to include diseases requiring newborn screening under Connecticut law and cystic fibrosis.

Expands coverage for specialized formulas to individuals twelve years of age and older (removing the previous age limitation to children under twelve) when medically necessary and administered under physician direction.

Mandates that all covered preparations, food products, and formulas be provided on the same basis as outpatient prescription drugs.

Effective date: January 1, 2021 for both individual health insurance policies (Section 38a-492c) and group health insurance policies (Section 38a-518c).
