Bill Summary: SB 247

• Paramedic applicants must complete mental health first aid training from an instructor certified by the National Council for Behavioral Health or an organization with substantially similar requirements, effective for applicants on or after January 1, 2020.

• Paramedics seeking licensure by endorsement from other states must complete the same mental health first aid training requirement as of January 1, 2020.

• Emergency medical responders, emergency medical technicians, and advanced emergency medical technicians seeking initial certification on or after January 1, 2020 must complete mental health first aid training as part of their certification requirements.

• Emergency medical services personnel seeking certification by endorsement from another state must complete mental health first aid training as of January 1, 2020.

• The bill takes effect October 1, 2020 and amends section 20-206mm of the Connecticut General Statutes.
