Repeals and replaces Section 14-8 of the general statutes, effective July 1, 2020, to modernize language regarding motor vehicle inspector authority.

Authorizes the motor vehicle commissioner, deputy commissioners, and designated salaried inspectors to make arrests and issue citations for motor vehicle violations throughout the state with the same authority as police officers and state police officers.

Permits designated salaried inspectors to declare commercial motor vehicles and drivers out of service in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations Title 49, Sections 392.5 and 396.9.

Allows the motor vehicle commissioner to nominate certified inspectors for appointment as special police officers by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection, with authority to arrest and present offenders for crimes committed within Department of Motor Vehicles buildings and on department lands.

Requires the commissioner to issue credentials to each deputy commissioner and inspector showing their arrest authority, which must be carried while performing official duties.
