Persons renting state park venues are not required to use caterers who have contracts with the commissioner, allowing them to choose their preferred catering service.

If a person's chosen caterer is not already approved to provide services at the facility, they may submit required information for approval, with a 12-month advance notice before the rental date.

The provision applies to rentals at state parks and facilities, including specific venues like the mansion at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, the Ellie Mitchell Pavilion at Rocky Neck State Park, and Gillette Castle State Park.

The commissioner must establish procedures and criteria for selecting private businesses, including caterers, engaged by the state to provide services during public use of these facilities.

The act becomes effective October 1, 2020.
