The Commissioner of Social Services or designee shall make reasonable efforts to communicate with immediate family members of conserved persons under Department of Social Services conservatorships.

Communication requirement has three exceptions: the family member cannot be located after a reasonable search of no more than thirty days, the communication would violate section 45a-656(b) protections, or the family member has interfered with protective services or been reported for suspected abuse, abandonment, neglect, or exploitation of the conserved person.

"Immediate family" is defined as a parent, sibling, child, or spouse for purposes of this requirement.

The act becomes effective July 1, 2020, and amends section 45a-651(c) of the general statutes.
