Retailers selling goods or services in person in Connecticut are prohibited from refusing cash (legal tender) as payment, posting signs that cash is not accepted, or charging cash-paying customers higher prices, effective October 1, 2021

Exemptions apply to transactions conducted by telephone, mail, or the Internet; parking lots and garages; wholesale clubs operating on a membership model; and retail stores using membership-based mobile app payment systems

Additional exemptions cover rentals of goods, services, or accommodations requiring collateral or security deposits, and goods or services provided exclusively to employees and authorized non-customer individuals on an employer's premises

The Commissioner of Consumer Protection is authorized to adopt regulations to implement and enforce the law
