Local board of education vacancies must be filled by the remaining board members until the next regular town election, when a successor is elected for the unexpired term

Vacancies occurring less than 60 days before a regular town election cannot be filled by the remaining board members; instead, voters elect a successor at that election

Board members who fail to take the required oath of office within 60 days of their term beginning or being chosen to fill a vacancy automatically create a vacancy in that office

Town boards of selectmen or chief executives can no longer fill board of education vacancies; such vacancies are now governed exclusively by section 10-219

The act takes effect upon passage and amends general statutes sections 7-107 and 10-219
