HB 6387 Summary

• Prohibits insurers from denying, limiting, or discriminating against individuals in life insurance, long-term care insurance, or disability income protection coverage solely because the person is a living organ donor, effective January 1, 2022.

• Establishes violations of the living organ donor protection as unfair and deceptive insurance practices subject to penalties under Connecticut insurance law.

• Creates a chronic kidney disease advisory committee to increase awareness, develop health education programs, examine kidney transplantation and donation, and identify barriers to early detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease.

• Requires the advisory committee to include legislators, state officials, representatives from medical centers, kidney foundations, organ procurement organizations, patient advocates, and health insurers with annual reporting requirements beginning January 1, 2022.
