HB 6507 Summary

• Defines "stillborn fetus" as a fetus that died after a gestation period of 20 weeks or more.

• Grants mothers the right to arrange for burial or cremation of a stillborn fetus.

• Requires hospitals to notify mothers in writing of their burial and cremation rights upon admission when practicable, or within 24 hours of admission if not practicable.

• Mothers must elect to arrange for burial or cremation in writing, delivered to the hospital no later than 72 hours after discharge.

• Allows mothers who do not arrange for burial or cremation to elect to be notified by the hospital of how the remains will be disposed of; the Department of Public Health shall prescribe the notification and election forms.

• Effective July 1, 2021.
