Summary of HB 6515: CROWN Act

• Expands Connecticut's legal definition of "race" to include ethnic traits historically associated with race, specifically hair texture and protective hairstyles
• Defines "protective hairstyles" to include wigs, headwraps, individual braids, cornrows, locs, twists, Bantu knots, afros, and afro puffs
• Amends Section 46a-51 of the general statutes, which governs discrimination definitions used by the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities
• Effective immediately upon passage, prohibiting race-based hair discrimination in employment and other contexts covered by existing anti-discrimination law
