Vehicles must stop at least 10 feet from frozen dessert trucks displaying flashing red lights and extended stop/crossing arms, then may proceed at no more than 5 mph while yielding to pedestrians; violations are infractions

Frozen dessert trucks must be equipped with flashing red signal lamps (5-7 inches diameter, visible 500 feet), a stop signal arm with "IF SAFE/STOP/THEN GO" legend, a front convex mirror, and a front crossing arm extending 4-6 feet

Vending is prohibited on highways with speed limits over 25 mph, within 100 feet of intersections with higher-speed roads, within 500 feet of schools during school hours, and where visibility is less than 200 feet in both directions

DMV cannot register frozen dessert trucks unless equipped with required safety equipment; operators must activate signals at least 50 feet before stopping to vend

Driver education courses must include instruction on motorist responsibilities when encountering frozen dessert trucks, effective October 1, 2021
