Paramedic license applicants must complete mental health first aid training from an instructor certified by the National Council for Behavioral Health or any other certifying organization with substantially similar requirements, effective January 1, 2020.

Applicants may satisfy the mental health first aid training requirement through the Commissioner of Public Health's approval of alternative certifying organizations with substantially similar certification standards.

Paramedics seeking licensure by endorsement from other states must also complete mental health first aid training if applying on or after January 1, 2020, unless they are licensed in good standing in a New England state, New York, or New Jersey.

Endorsement applicants from New England states, New York, or New Jersey must have completed initial training consistent with National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards and have no pending disciplinary actions.
