Each law enforcement unit must adopt or amend a policy by October 1, 2021 establishing standards for police officer personal appearance while on duty in uniform or authorized attire.

Law enforcement units must permit police officers to wear religious head coverings in accordance with their religious beliefs while on duty.

Religious head coverings are prohibited only where tight-fitting protective headgear is required by the law enforcement unit.

The act takes effect upon passage and applies to all law enforcement units and police officers as defined in Connecticut General Statutes section 7-294a.
