SB 266 Summary

• Requires new home construction contractors and home improvement contractors to apply online (instead of in writing) for registration certificates, effective July 1, 2022

• Changes contractor certificate renewal from biennial to annual, expiring March 31 each year, with annual application fees of $120 for new home construction contractors and $100 for home improvement contractors

• Requires written contracts for new home construction that include contractor name, address, registration number, project dates, and disclosure of all related business entities the owner has been involved with in the past five years

• Increases small claims court jurisdiction from $5,000 to $15,000 for home improvement and new home construction contract disputes, effective July 1, 2022

• Exempts certain locksmith registration requirements for electronic lock technicians, security system personnel, and building trades workers, provided they maintain proper electrical licensing
