SB 568 Summary

• Eliminates nonmedical (religious/philosophical) immunization exemptions for school and child care enrollment, effective upon passage, with transition provisions for currently enrolled students in grades 7-12 and those in grades 6 and below who previously claimed exemptions

• Allows only medical exemptions (certified by physicians, physician assistants, or advanced practice registered nurses) and exemptions for children who have had confirmed cases of certain diseases or passed specified age thresholds

• Requires children in grades 6 and below with prior religious exemptions to comply with immunization requirements by September 1, 2022, unless they provide a physician's written declaration that immunizations are in process

• Establishes an Advisory Committee on Medically Contraindicated Vaccinations to review medical exemption data, vaccine contraindications, and issuance practices, with first meeting required by October 1, 2021

• Requires health insurance policies to cover recommended immunizations and at least a 20-minute consultation with a health care provider, effective January 1, 2022
