SB 1070 - An Act Concerning Physician Assistants

• Establishes physician assistant supervision requirements, allowing one supervising physician to oversee multiple PAs provided supervision is active and direct, and permits PA employment in hospitals and health care facilities under physician direction

• Authorizes licensed physician assistants to provide civil preparedness services through state disaster response teams and permits out-of-state PAs licensed in other states to serve in Connecticut Army or Air National Guard units without state licensure

• Expands references to physician assistants across Connecticut statutes to include PAs alongside physicians and advanced practice registered nurses in roles including medical certifications, disability determinations, immunization requirements, health care directives, and patient bill of rights

• Allows physician assistants to certify disabilities for various programs including tax relief, sports fishing licenses, jury duty exemptions, workers' compensation cases, and life insurance policies

• Effective October 1, 2021
