Commissioner of Transportation shall provide grants-in-aid to reimburse municipalities 90 percent of costs associated with purchasing road signs that promote road safety.

Grant applications must be submitted in a manner prescribed by the commissioner and demonstrate how the road sign promotes road safety; applications may include a written statement from a law enforcement unit supporting the need for the sign.

Grant funds may only be used for the cost of the road sign itself and cannot be expended for labor costs associated with erecting the sign.

Establishes a "municipal road signs account" as a separate, nonlapsing account within the Special Transportation Fund to hold and disburse grant money.

Appropriates $500,000 to the Department of Transportation for deposit into the municipal road signs account for fiscal year ending June 30, 2023.
