Removes the requirement that peace officers be "engaged in the performance of official duties" to lawfully carry a firearm on school grounds, allowing police officers to possess firearms on school property at all times.

Maintains exceptions for firearm possession by persons in school-approved programs, those with agreements with school officials, and individuals traversing school property for hunting or lawful purposes with unloaded firearms.

Establishes possession of a weapon on school grounds as a class D felony.

Takes effect October 1, 2022 and amends Connecticut General Statutes section 53a-217b.
