HB 5399 Summary

• Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management shall provide planning and management assistance to municipal officials in New Haven, Hartford, Bridgeport, and Waterbury to implement the Project Longevity Initiative, a comprehensive community-based gun violence reduction program.

• Secretary may apply for and accept federal and state funds to support Project Longevity Initiative implementation in the four designated cities with consultation from federal, state, and local officials including the U.S. Attorney, state's attorney, correction commissioner, and community leaders.

• Secretary or entity coordinating the Project Longevity Initiative shall maximize educational, employment, and career services for program clients through coordination with the Governor's Workforce Council, regional workforce development boards, and the Board of Regents for Higher Education.

• Project Longevity Initiative services shall be supplemented through 13 specific strategies including connections to vocational education, employment services, job training programs, partnerships with criminal justice agencies, and coordination with chambers of commerce and businesses.

• Board of Regents for Higher Education, Governor's Workforce Council, and regional workforce development boards must coordinate with Project Longevity Initiative to develop strategies and ensure delivery of educational, employment, and career services to initiative clients.
