Pesticide application businesses and state/municipal agencies must publish notice in newspapers of general circulation and post signs at public access points before applying pesticides to publicly owned lakes or ponds (effective October 1, 2022).

For private lakes or ponds with multiple shoreline owners, applicators must provide direct notice to affected property owners or tenants rather than publishing in newspapers.

Applicators must make at least two notification attempts to property owners, with the second attempt occurring 24 or more hours after the first, completed at least 24 hours before application via telephone, mail, personal contact, or door notice.

Emergency applications or those following integrated pest management practices may proceed with in-person notification immediately prior to application if standard notification attempts fail.

Aircraft pesticide applications already regulated under section 22a-66 are exempt from the direct notification requirements.
