Defines "severe obesity" as a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40, or 35 or more with a comorbid condition such as cardiopulmonary disease, diabetes, hypertension, or sleep apnea.

Authorizes the Commissioner of Social Services to provide Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program reimbursement for medically necessary surgical treatment of severe obesity, including related hospital services, beginning April 1, 2023.

Authorizes reimbursement for medically necessary covered outpatient prescription drugs to treat severe obesity under Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program.

Coverage is subject to federal approval and compliance with applicable federal requirements.

Becomes effective October 1, 2022.
