Water companies are prohibited from assessing fire protection charges to municipalities for water lines not connected to hydrants on the same street or within the municipality, effective July 1, 2022.

Water companies cannot assess fire protection charges for water lines or hydrants they do not own and maintain.

Water companies are prohibited from assessing linear foot charges or hydrant charges for water lines located on private property.

Water companies must obtain approval from both the chief administrative officer and local fire marshal of the municipality before installing any hydrant.
