Senate Bill No. 332 Summary

• Prohibits towing licensees from requiring vehicle owners to sign contracts for repair or storage of damaged vehicles as a condition of the towing service, or to sign repair authorization orders until the tow job is completed.

• Permits licensees and vehicle owners to voluntarily enter into repair or storage agreements after the tow job has been completed.

• Establishes wrecker equipment requirements including two flashing yellow lights mounted at least 8 feet above road surface, a spotlight directed at hoisting equipment, a fire extinguisher with minimum 8 bc rating, and three flares for nighttime use.

• Prohibits wrecker operators from offering gratuities or inducements to police officers or others to obtain towing business or storage recommendations.

• Forbids negligent towing practices that cause additional damage to vehicles being towed.

• Effective October 1, 2022.
