Active military members and veterans within two years of discharge may apply to the Labor Department for evaluation of military training to substitute for apprenticeship requirements in specific trades or subsurface sewage disposal system work.

The Labor Commissioner shall evaluate military training and determine if it is equivalent to all or part of an apprenticeship program, and may issue a recommendation allowing applicants to sit for licensure exams without completing an apprenticeship.

Veterans presenting a Labor Commissioner's recommendation for review are waived from paying application and licensing fees for subsurface sewage disposal system installer or cleaner licenses ($50 and $20 respectively).

The Department of Public Health and examining boards must accept a recommendation for review from the Labor Commissioner as sufficient evidence of competency for trade and sewage system licenses.

All provisions take effect October 1, 2022, amending sections 31-22u, 20-341e, and 20-333(a) and (b) of Connecticut general statutes.
