Public institutions of higher education are prohibited from profiting or receiving money from sponsors, marketing companies, or other entities in exchange for allowing direct solicitation of students to gamble online.

Direct solicitation includes contact made through mail, telephone, electronic mail, in-person communication, or any other means intended to induce a person to make a gambling transaction.

The prohibition covers gambling through Internet websites, online services, and mobile applications.

The law became effective July 1, 2023.
