HB 6481 Summary

• Prohibits any person, nonprofit organization, firm, corporation, state, or political subdivision from knowingly releasing, organizing the release of, or intentionally causing the release of helium or other lighter-than-air gas balloons into the atmosphere in Connecticut.

• Exempts balloons deployed by the National Weather Service or similar research entities from the prohibition.

• Classifies violations of the balloon release prohibition as an infraction.

• Effective date is October 1, 2023.
