Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection establishes a pilot program to fund law enforcement units to hire addiction services experts, effective July 1, 2023.

Funding targets law enforcement units serving communities experiencing high drug overdose rates, as determined by the department.

Funded law enforcement units must report by July 1st annually on how funds were used, how addiction services experts impacted their work, and whether the experts impacted drug overdose rates in their communities.

Department must report to the joint standing committee on public safety by January 1, 2024, and annually thereafter, including total funds expended, amounts provided to specific units, and summaries of unit reports.
