Substitute Bill No. 955 - Anatomical Gifts

• Hospitals must report annually to the Commissioner of Public Health, starting January 1, 2024, each instance when they allowed a person to amend or revoke an anatomical gift that the deceased had made prior to death but had not previously amended or revoked.

• The Commissioner of Public Health must report annually to the joint standing committee on public health, starting February 1, 2024, regarding all hospital reports on amended or revoked anatomical gifts.

• The Department of Public Health, in consultation with the Department of Motor Vehicles, University of Connecticut, and a state organ donor services organization, must evaluate motorcycle accident data and organ donation rates for the preceding four years.

• The evaluation must determine the number and percentage of motorcycle accidents and fatalities compared to all motor vehicle accidents, the number of motorcycle-licensed drivers who are registered organ donors, and the number of anatomical gifts made by motorcycle accident fatalities.

• The Commissioner of Public Health must report the evaluation results to the joint standing committee on public health by January 1, 2024.
