Newly appointed zoning enforcement officers must obtain certification from the Connecticut Association of Zoning Enforcement Officials beginning January 1, 2024, and maintain it throughout their employment.

Planning commission alternate members may be appointed or elected by municipalities and may attend all meetings and executive sessions.

Alternate members who also serve or have served on the zoning commission or zoning board of appeals must recuse themselves from appeals before the zoning board if they participated in the original planning commission decision.

Municipal planning and zoning commission members must complete at least 4 hours of training, with at least 1 hour focused on affordable and fair housing policies.

Training frequency changed from every other year to once every four years, or once per term if the term exceeds four years; attorneys with 4+ years experience and land use enforcement officers are exempt from training requirements.
