Summary of SB 1134 / Public Act 23-55

• The Criminal Justice Commission may appoint law school students within five months of graduation as apprentice prosecutors, provided they are certified legal interns under Superior Court rules.

• Apprentice prosecutors automatically advance to deputy assistant state's attorney positions upon admission to the Connecticut bar within one year of law school graduation.

• The provision overrides requirements in section 51-278a to allow these appointments within available appropriations.

• Apprentice prosecutors will assist state's attorneys and the Chief State's Attorney in criminal matters.
