Public Act No. 24-82 Summary

• Department of Public Health, in collaboration with Social Services and Agriculture, must develop a plan by January 1, 2025 to streamline cross-enrollment of HUSKY A recipients into the federal WIC program, supplemental nutrition assistance program, and Connecticut Farmers' Market/WIC Nutrition Program.

• Three departments must jointly create a multilingual fact sheet by January 1, 2025 explaining eligibility requirements and benefits for HUSKY A and the three nutrition programs, translated into the five most commonly spoken languages in Connecticut.

• Department of Education must administer a child nutrition outreach program to increase participation in the federal School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program, and Child and Adult Care Food Program, including innovative breakfast service methods.

• Commissioner of Social Services must contract with a vendor by December 31, 2024 to enable staggered monthly distribution of supplemental nutrition assistance benefits to beneficiary cohorts, commencing by March 1, 2026.

• Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity must convene a working group by August 1, 2024 to study and recommend strategies for expanding federal nutrition program participation, with recommendations due by January 1, 2026.
