Repeals the prohibition that prevented board of education members from receiving compensation for their services, allowing the board to fix salaries and compensation for members other than the secretary.

Maintains that salaries for the board secretary and attendance officers may be fixed by the town or, until the town acts, by the board of education.

Allows board members to receive necessary expenses when performing duties delegated by the board.

Prohibits any board of education member from being employed for compensation by their own board in any school system position, with violation resulting in loss of office.

Permits board members to serve on school building committees and to receive compensation solely for being a board of education member under the amended compensation provisions.
